LETTER FROM PYGMY BOATS FOUNDER JOHN LOCKWOOD:
Dear Pygmies,
We here at Pygmy Boats shut down our showroom on March 25th and switched to online sales from home to do our part to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. These have been difficult times. I sincerely hope you are well and coping with whatever hardship may have befallen you or your loved ones. Together we will get through this.
I am now, at age 77, preparing to more fully retire. I have been in conversation with several skilled and competent potential buyers. But these discussions were put on hold by the coronavirus epidemic and the resulting decline and uncertainty of the US economy. In response we have decided to put Pygmy Boats into hibernation mode on July 1st.
Four weeks ago we shut down kit production. We have sold our entire kit inventory and have many that are now back ordered. We told each of those back ordered customers that we have suspended production due to the coronavirus pandemic and that we will notify them when we start up again. So far they have all seemed more than willing to wait to get a Pygmy Boat. Experiencing your excitement about getting a Pygmy boat still makes me happy.
I am grateful to all of our customers who have joined me to create the culture of Pygmy Boats over the years. I am proud of the fact that I have designed boats that could take me and you off the end of the road and into the peace of wild places. We have shared a love of using our bodies to propel a boat we built with our own hands. It has brought me joy to share with you our mutual love of nature. Thank you for being such an incredible community.
